There are times in my life where I don’t feel like I am accomplishing what I want. For example, sometimes I am at the gym, looking at the weights and cardio equipment, wondering why I don’t have the desire or energy to use any of it. Other times, I am sitting at my desk in my office, gazing at my to-do list, just hoping that some items would just take care of themselves so I could do the things that I’d rather do instead. Have you ever been there?
I think that most of us have, which makes getting unstuck a priority for a large number of people. After all, it doesn’t feel very good to be unmotivated and unenthusiastic. Life is meant to be lived and if you’re stuck, you’re really not living it.
The tool I use to help me get unstuck is music. When I turn on tunes that I connect with and enjoy listening to, it creates an energy in me that I never even knew I had. It shifts me from feeling as if I can’t (or don’t want to) do anything, to believing that there is nothing I can’t do.
It doesn’t matter what type of music you listen to, whether it is rock and roll, blues, hip hop, country, rap, or opera. As long as you like it, it has the ability to move you. It is like the person or band singing is talking solely to you, giving you your own personal pep rally, enticing you to no longer sit and accept life as it is.
In honesty, sometimes music can move you backwards, such as if a song that you hear makes you sad or reminds you of days past that you will never get back. However, inevitably, it will move you forward again, so you are ready to take on the world in front of you, conquering the things that you need to overcome to get where you want to be.
In fact, do it right now and see what happens. Turn on your iTunes, pull up your favorite artist or band on YouTube, or tap your Pandora app and see how you feel after a song or two. You may be surprised at how much energy you suddenly feel when just two seconds ago you were wishing for a nap or a vacation on the beach.
Just sit and let the tunes and the words inspire you to once again do great things. Use the energy coming through your speakers to propel you to higher places, and get a dose of motivation from the song’s beat or message or story. Become unstuck from where you are and get ready to soar even higher.
If you want to cry, you can do that too. Remember that any movement is good movement, so as long as it moves you, then at least it means you are no longer stuck, and that is a good thing. Actually, it’s a great thing.
