3 Fast and Easy Ways to Discover Who You Are

Friday, January 16th, 2015

The first step to living the life you’ve always wanted is knowing who you are. In other words, you have to know what makes you tick and what drives you to want to be a better person. You need to have an in-depth knowledge of the person that you are, inside and out.

Admittedly, this isn’t always the easiest thing to do. In fact, many people struggle with finding out who they are. They’ve spent so much time filling other people’s ideas of who they should be that they’ve lost sight of their own definitions, goals, and ambitions.

If this is where you are, it’s time to break through the barriers and discover the person that exists at the deepest levels of your core so that you can enjoy the greatest levels of happiness possible. Here are three ways to do this both quickly and easily:

Recognize Your Passions

Each one of us has topics or areas that we are passionate about. These are the things we can talk about for hours on end and never get sick of. These are also the things that we need in our lives in order to make us feel complete and full of energy.

To help you recognize your passions, make a list of the things that make you feel as if you are ready to take on the world. Include things in your personal and professional life so you get a well-rounded idea of what fuels your fire. For instance, maybe you have a real drive toward ending child abuse or perhaps you get easily sparked up by talking about quantum physics.

These are the areas that you want to become involved in as they will bring you the most satisfaction. Seek out careers, part-time jobs, volunteer work, or hobbies in these areas to keep you motivated day in and day out.

Know Your Values

In addition to recognizing your passions, you also have to know your underlying values. You have to stay true to these virtues that you hold near and dear to your heart or you will always feel in conflict, never really being able to reach your maximum happiness potential.

Write down all of the values that you feel are important both for you to have and for you to see in others as well. Consider things such as honesty, integrity, work ethic, patience, compassion, and genuineness and be as inclusive as possible so that you get a complete idea of the values that carry the most weight with you.

Knowing these can help you make decisions that will keep you true to who you are. Don’t compromise them in any way and you’ll be a success, no matter how you define it.

Understand Your Roles

The final way to quickly and easily discover who you are is to understand the roles that you hold in your life. These are the familial positions such as mother, father, husband, wife, daughter, son, and so on, but they are also work-related titles of employer, employee, lawyer, doctor, police officer, chef, and construction worker.

The more you understand which roles you have been given (either by yourself or by others), the easier it is for you to see why you may be struggling at times. For instance, maybe you hold too many roles and are finding it difficult to keep up or it is possible that the roles that you have conflict with your values or your passions.

For instance, maybe you hold too many roles and are finding it difficult to keep up or it is possible that the roles that you have conflict with your values or your passions.

Additionally, you also want to consider what roles you’d like to hold in the future. If you want to be a CEO of your company, for example, what do you need to do to fit that role? Or, if you want to be a better parent, what steps could you take to get you there?

Discovering your passions, knowing your values, and understanding your roles will give you a clearer idea not only of who you are, but also of who you want to be. It is then that you will live your YOUlogy and make the most of your life. It is then that you will find pure, uncut happiness that fulfills every cell in your body. How’s that for positive results?
